A Statistical Analysis of Weights in Composite Qol Indices

چکیده

Editor's Note: In a recent article published in Sociological Methods and Research, Michael Hagerty and Ken Land study the statistical foundations of how to construct composite or summary indices (e.g., Quality of Life indices) for a social unit (e.g., cities, states, nations) that will be endorsed by a majority of its citizens. Since this problem is of central importance to the Social Indicators/ Quality-of-Life/ISQOLS communities, we present an abbreviated version of the article here. For full details, mathematical proofs and citations/references to other publications, readers are referred to the SM&R article:

A ‎n‎ew weighting approach to Non-Parametric composite indices compared with principal components analysis‎

Introduction of Human Development Index (HDI) by UNDP in early 1990 followed a surge in use of non-parametric and parametric indices for measurement and comparison of countries performance in development, globalization, competition, well-being and etc. The HDI is a composite index of three indicators. Its components are to reflect three major dimensions of human development: longevity, knowledg...

Effective transient stability assessment based on composite indices

This paper presents a new composite index to analyze power system transient stability. Contingency ranking in power system transient stability is a complicated and time consuming task. To prevail over this difficulty, various indices are used. These indices are based on the concept of coherency, transient energy conversion between kinetic and potential energy and three dot products of the s...

Structural Analysis of the Correlation between Occupational Stress and Quality of life in University Administrators Using a PLS Approach

Background: University administrators play a key role in providing educational services to students and faculty members. This study aims to explain occupational stress (OS) in university administrators based on health-related quality of life (QoL) using a PLS approach. Materials and Methods: The statistical population of this correlational study included all 70 managers in the field of educati...

Constructing Summary Indices of Social Well-Being: A Model for the Effect of Heterogeneous Importance Weights

We consider problems associated with the construction of summary indices for a social unit (e.g., cities, states, nations). These problems are motivated by the question of how to construct a social well-being or Quality-of-Life (QOL) index that summarizes many social indicators, and that a majority of individuals can agree with. We specify a model for measuring the extent to which individuals w...
